Empowerment
Our work
Ashray has been building resilience among the marginalized and vulnerable women's groups.
We empowering them with financial inclusion and decision making through livelihood skills such as weaving shawls, sewing, mushroom plantation, educating them through our adult literacy center, training on Self Help Groups (SHGs), and many more where we see a reduction in trafficking and exploitation in the community.
Especially with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many men and women lost their jobs and are faced with major challenges to keep their families at stake. This has led to an increase of vulnerability towards trafficking in India.
Observing such a frightening situation, Ashray has addressed the urgent need for equipping and building the confidence of many towards an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliant) by providing them with skill training programs.
Some of the major impacts seen in the SHGs after the Covid-19 pandemic and how it benefited the women group is fascinating. Some members of the SHGs women have started their small businesses by opening shops like vegetable shops, variety shops, stitching shops. Other women also have started producing mushrooms, pickles, clothes, candles etc. and selling in the market and home and are supporting their families financially, preventing them from being lure and trafficked
