Gender based abuse

Our work
Ashray is addressing issues of Gender based abuse through capacity building, awareness programs, livelihood and skill trainings to victims who are in need.

It also supports victims of abuse in counselling to ensure the well-being of victims’ mental health.

Many women and men from the marginalized community, depressed and underprivilege community groups are being provided a platform for focused group discussions on gender-based abuse and helped them understand the value of life of all gender – male or female.

Prevention through capacity building

In one of the remote areas of Jharkhand, Ashray conducted a meeting where 40 leaders from tribal communities – Oraon, Sadan and Santhal communities gathered and reasoned together factors leading to gender-based abuse in their society.

As majority of the participants were laborers in agricultural fields as a daily waged labourer, the program was conducted at night for their convenience. It has been observed that large section of women in the communities is experiencing abuse and are unaware about measures to deal with the issue.

Participants were motivated and vowed to take steps to reduce the issue in their respective places and volunteered to partner with Ashray.
